I have discovered ground cherries growing in my flower garden. I have done some research and they are reported to be a delightful treat after they fall off of the plant and ripen to an orangey yellow color. Mine have produced fruit in little green lanterns and the lanterns have fallen off the plant but nary a one has turned yellow. I have not found anything about greenish red ground cherries or even what they look like as immature fruit so I’m still wary of the fruit as I have read they are toxic when eaten green. I am both excited by and fearful of this plant.
